Anxiety patients

Special services

Various sedation methods are available for patients who suffer from severe dental phobia. In an initial consultation, we determine which option is most suitable on an individual basis.

Nitrous oxide

By inhaling a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen, you can relax considerably. You will remain awake and responsive, but anxiety and stress will subside after a short time. Another pleasant side effect of nitrous oxide analgesia is a reduced perception of time.

At the end of the treatment, you will be given a few minutes of pure oxygen so that the calming effect of the nitrous oxide has completely worn off by the time you leave the practice. Before we decide to treat you with nitrous oxide, we would like to get to know you! In a detailed consultation, we will analyse your needs and explain the exact procedures, risks and benefits of nitrous oxide treatment.

Twilight sleep

The intravenous administration of sedatives and painkillers puts you in a state of relaxation that is similar to a light sleep. The treatment can therefore be carried out without pain or stress. In contrast to general anaesthesia, twilight sleep (analogue sedation) does not require artificial respiration.

We would like to get to know you before we decide in favour of treatment with twilight sleep! In a detailed consultation, we will analyse your needs and explain the exact procedures, risks and benefits of twilight sleep treatment.

General anaesthesia

In certain cases, treatment can also be carried out under general anaesthetic for adult patients. An anaesthetist and his team will monitor you throughout the treatment, while your dentist treats your teeth while you sleep and relax.

After treatment under general anaesthetic, you will remain in the practice until you are fully awake again. You are not allowed to drive on this day.

We work exclusively with experienced anaesthetists.

Teeth grinding

When chewing, teeth have to withstand strong forces for short periods of time. However, if they are exposed to these forces over a longer period of time through grinding, this can lead to cracks and fractures in the tooth. In addition, the surrounding muscles are overloaded, which can lead to pain.

Splint therapy (crunch splint)

To protect your teeth and relax overworked chewing muscles, it is advisable to wear a protective splint at night. Your dentist will advise you on which splint is best for you.

Muscle relaxation

If a splint alone is not enough and you suffer from severe discomfort, it may be useful to temporarily treat the masticatory muscles with a preparation that helps to relax the muscles.

Physiotherapy

In particularly severe cases, it may make sense to carry out special jaw physiotherapy in addition to splint therapy.
